History

About 

Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is the oldest department at Ilam University of Medical Sciences (IUMS). In 1990, the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery was established and operated as the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Later, it was separated into the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. The IUMS Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery has more than 30 years of experience educating nursing leaders and innovating research. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs taught by experienced faculty members.

The nursing education program began in February 1990 with the admission of 12 undergraduate nursing students. In 1992, The faculty also accepted students in the midwifery associate degree program. The faculty has offered many different degrees over the years.
 
In 2014, the faculty began offering Master's Degree Programs (master of medical-surgical nursing and geriatric nursing). Today, more than 130 men and women annually enter undergraduate and post-graduate programs. 
 
The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery conduct teaching and research in the field of nursing and midwifery. The faculty teaching activities cover all aspects of providing holistic nursing care to patients in the hospital as well as providing community health care and public health.

 

Mission

 

The mission of the IUMS Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is to create a center of excellence for the advancement of nursing/midwifery science, the promotion of clinical scholarship, and the education of clinical leaders, advanced practitioners, and researchers. Through nursing/midwifery research, education, and practice, students and faculty members seek to enhance the quality of life for people of all cultures, economic levels, and geographic locations.
